Comme des Garçons is founded by Rei Kawakubo in 1969. Kawakubo is a self-taught Japanese fashion designer known for her avant-garde clothing designs. Rather than respond to trends, Kawakubo rooted her designs in concepts, straddling art and fashion. Her garments were sometimes described as "antifashion".
